Wedding Movies Galore

As Wedding Season gets underway we at Wedmother HQ have been discussing our favourite wedding themed movies and there are LOADS of them!

Some are funny, some are off the wall and some are downright daft but if you’re looking for a wedding night in, here are our top picks, rated out of 5 ♥(just for fun!). Pick your favourite and add it to your Hen Night planning!

Movie – The Wedding Date
Starring – Dermot Mulroney, Debra Messing, Amy Adams
Laughter factor  ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
Weepy factor  ♥ ♥
Will the boys get bored?  Probably!

One of my favourites and the soundtrack is amazing, opening up with the Corrs and Breathless (I was doing a bit of a chair boogie at that!) and there’s a bit of Bublé in there too! Set in England but with a mix of US and UK actors, and probably one of the most unexpected pieces of comedy comes courtesy of Sarah Parish. I’ve seen this probably 10 or more times!

Best bits – the soundtrack, and the sharp one liners
Worst bits – Pretty Woman in reverse. Sort of!
Overall – worth watching, you might get hooked!  ♥♥

Movie – My Best Friend’s Wedding
Starring – Julia Roberts, Dermot Mulroney, Cameron Diaz
Laughter factor  ♥ ♥ ♥
Weepy factor  ♥
Will the boys get bored? Probably

I remember loving this movie when it came out, but then I was in my 20s. It’s amusing enough with some laugh-out-loud moments and a lot of references to food! Begs the question would you sabotage your best friend’s wedding because you thought you were in love with him/her? Might have to watch again soon.

Best bits – funny chase scene, a definite feel good factor and a statue of ‘the David’.
Worst bits – Some terrible Karaoke that ends in a ‘feel good’ scene!
Overall – worth a watch  ♥♥

Movie – A Few Best Men
Starring –  Laura Brent, Xavier Samuel, Kris Marshall
Laughter factor  ♥ ♥ ♥
Weepy factor  0
Will the boys get bored?  Nope, they’re gonna love it!

So this one is definitely more for the boys although I did enjoy it. It got a bad rap from reviewers but take it for what it is – a boy-view rom-com aimed at 20-somethings who want a laugh. Watch out for the drugs and an unfortunate animal, be warned people call it a ‘gross shocking comedy’ and ‘vulgar’ but take all that in your stride and it’s OK for movie night.

Best bits – Quite funny in places, has a happy ending and pretty scenery
Worst bits – That unfortunate animal (no animal sex or cruelty, just unfortunate)
Overall – just don’t take it too seriously or expect too much  ♥♥

Muriels Wedding cover
Movie – Muriel’s Wedding
Starring – Toni Collette, Rachel Griffiths
Laughter factor  ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
Weepy factor  ♥ ♥ ♥
Will the boys get bored?  A little maybe but my hubby likes it!

An awesome ABBA sountrack, a woman who knows what she wants and is done with waiting for it to happen, the best friendship and a sad bit all wrapped up in some Aussie humour that will have you cheering for Muriel/Marial all the way to the aisle!

Best bits – The ABBA ‘talent show’
Worst bits – Sad that a person is made to feel the way she does by her own family
Overall – Must watch, totally worth your time ♥♥
Bridesmaids cover
Movie – Bridesmaids
Starring –  Kristen Wiig, Maya Rudolph, Rose ByrneMelissa McCarthy and lots more!
Laughter factor  ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
Weepy factor  ♥ (only for the end scene and the friendship. And the dress will make you cry…)
Will the boys get bored?  Nope, hits both sexes equally!

Possibly the best all female top cast in a wedding comedy. Oh wait….possibly the only…! Of course Chris O’Dowd does a great job as the only main dude in the movie but the girls definitely steal the show. Lots to enjoy here – gross out comedy, beautiful friendships, jealousy and puppies. Now, where’s the popcorn…

Best bits – The speeches at the bridal shower, a cupcake for one and a shocking frock
Worst bits – the worst dress you’ll ever see and lot of poo!
Overall – Must watch with your Hens! ♥♥

Now I am a Wedmother-not a movie reviewer, so remember that these are just the opinions of us here at Wedmother Towers. We appreciate everyone is different but hope you’ve enjoyed reading our little reviews!

The list of Wedding themed movies is a long one so here are some others that made our list, have yourself a movie night in with this little lot!

Four Weddings and a Funeral – classic!
The Wedding Crashers – good for guys and gals
The Wedding Planner – not so keen on movies that focus on breaking up relationships for main character gain but each to their own!
Father of the Bride – classic!
The Wedding Singer – 80s cheese fest not to be missed

And our final wedding movie choice? Steele Magnolias. It’s got everything ♥
